Mrs. Alicia Gomez Reyes, of Van Horn, Texas, earned her reward next to Our Father, on January 14, 2023 surrounded by her loved ones. Mrs. Reyes was born to David Gomez and Felipa Benavidez on February 2, 1937 in Van Horn, Texas. She attended Van Horn schools.
Alicia was a long-time member of the close-knit community. She worked in the food business most of her life and served and greeted customers with a cheerful smile and kind, welcoming attitude.
Alicia had a quick wit, a bubbly personality, and a strong work ethic.
She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Van Horn, Texas. She attended the Cursillo and earned her Cursillo crucifix. In addition, through her catholic faith, she was a proud member of the Guadalupanas of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church.
She watched as a proud mother from the sidelines, bleachers, and stadium seats and rooted as her children participated in various activities. Her love of the Dallas Cowboys had her sporting her sports attire and cheering on from the other side of the television set. Alicia was always up for a good, competitive game of Loteria.
A doting and dedicated mother, Alicia raised her eight children as a single parent. The eight include Norma Gary, Ray Reyes, Ruben Reyes, Bobby Reyes, Laura Jean Reyes, Sylvia Davis, the late Gracie Gomez Alvarado, and Ivonne Gomez Onate. She leaves behind one sister, Gloria Lopez. Also, she is survived by a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Mrs. Reyes was preceded in death by her parents, David and Felipa, her brothers Carlos and Chon Gomez and her beloved daughter Gracie Gomez Alvarado.
Her special talent was singing. She passed her appreciation of music on to her children and grandchildren. Her favorite song of endearment, Chingarito, carries on, as the family continues to grow. She was immensely proud of her family and leaves behind only beautiful cherishing memories.
