Amaro Munoz, age 73, retired Patrol Agent in Charge of the United States Border Patrol, and resident of Van Horn, Texas, entered eternal life at his residence, on Wednesday, November 21st, 2018.
Amaro was born on February 17th, 1945 in Donna, Texas to Adan Munoz, Sr., and Paula (Martinez) Munoz. Amaro was a graduate of The University of Texas-Pan American with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice. He served during the Vietnam War in the United States Navy, and was a crew member aboard the USS Iowa Jima, that was support for NASA during the Apollo 13 Mission and Rescue. Amaro was a member of the United States Boarder Patrol from October of 1976 until his retirement in January of 2001.
Praying of the Most Holy Rosary for Amaro was held on Tuesday, November 27th, 2018 in Van Horn, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, with Mass of Christian Burial being held on Wednesday, November 28th, 2018. Burial followed at the Van Horn Cemetery with the United States Border Patrol and United States Navy rendering full honors.
Amaro a wonderful delightful person to be around. He always had a smile from ear to ear that could light up any room. He was very proud of his family, especially his son. He loved to help people and would do anything for anyone.
He loved to travel, and spend time with his family, friends, and his grandchildren was his everything. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and cheering on the Atlanta Braves, as well as traveling to Turner Field in Georgia. Amaro was also a 4th degree of the Knights of Columbus.
Those proceeding Amaro in were: one son Joseph David Munoz; his parents; and one brother Adan Munoz, Jr.
Left to remember and honor the wonderful life of Amaro is his wife Susana R. Hinojos of Van Horn; sons Joseph D. Munoz and wife Kimberly of Clarksville, Tennessee, and Richard Hinojos and wife Corrinne of Midland, Texas; daughters Norma J. Munoz of Edinburg, Texas and Alana Marie Hinojos of Van Horn; brothers Abel Munoz and wife Minerva of Donna, Texas, Albert Munoz and wife Rosie of San Juan, Texas, Quirino Munoz and wife Sonya of Edinburg, Texas, and Juan Munoz and wife Minerva of Redgate, Texas. Sister Modesta Peterson of San Juan, Texas. Eleven grandchildren, two great grandchildren.
The Munoz family has entrusted Heritage Funeral Home of Van Horn with arrangements.
